A month has gone by since the Great Texas Blanco-style Clean-Up Event. The statistics are in, and Blanconians outdid themselves in their effort to Keep Blanco Beautiful.
Over 1,000 pounds of litter were picked up along the city streets, parks, and creek beds. Three pick-ups pulling flatbeds cruised the neighborhoods collecting large items citizens were unable to haul to the city yard themselves. In the weeks prior to the April 14 event, many residents hauled their own bulky waste to the roll-offs at the Jones Ave. location. All in all, IESI delivered five 20-yard dumpsters. Those were filled and picked up, and three 40-yard dumpsters were brought in and also filled. Total haul from the city yard was over 33 tons of trash! That is a lot of junk removed from our city!
$2,000 worth of metal scrap was given to the county to help fund the recycling center.
The following week was the county-wide opportunity to dispose of unwanted stuff at the transfer station. There, eight 40-yard containers of just plain garbage (not recyclable) were filled, 3 containers of scrap metal, some 3000 pounds of unusable electronics, 660 tires, and 2,400 pounds of batteries were dropped off by Blanco County residents. Eighteen county employees, two community service workers, and four volunteers worked hard to make the event a success.
Let’s work at keeping Blanco Beautiful! Get rid of unwanted stuff before it overflows into your yard! Pick up litter in front of your property only because you take pride in how your street looks! Recycle – do your part to save the environment!
