Wellness Center Offers Kids Summer Sports, Fitness Day Camp
Wednesday, May 30, 2012 • Posted May 31, 2012

Boys and girls will have more than a place to go this summer; they’ll have a way to be fit and have fun, too.

Hill Country Memorial Wellness Center will offer a different activity each week for kids ages 5 through 12 during the Fit Kids Summer Sports and Fitness Day Camp 2012 at Lady Bird Johnson Park.

The camp runs 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., weekdays from June 4 through August 10. Sports activities are held in the morning before lunch, and kids will swim each afternoon at Lady Bird Johnson Park pool. Parents may sign up their children by the day, week, or month and payment is due at the time of registration. The cost is $40/day or $115/week and parents will drop off and pick up their children at the park.

Wellness Center Director Dawn Bourgeois said the camp focus is to provide daily activities that teach children various recreational and sports activities. “There are no special skills required to participate,” she said. “It’s an opportunity to learn, have fun and be safe.”

Weekly activities will include football or cheer (June 4 - 8), basketball (June 11 - 15), soccer (June 18 - 22), Ol’ Fashion Fun (June 25 – 29), golf (July 2 - 6), baseball or softball (July 9 – 13), dance or Wheels,Inc. (July 16 – 20), nature or arts & crafts (July 23 – 27), tennis (July 30 – August 3) and camping and fishing (Aug. 6 – 10).

Attendance at the camp is limited to 40 children per week, and enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents should call the Wellness Center at 997-1355 or stop by 1006 South State Hwy. 16 for more information or to sign up their children.
