Dr. Summer Woodward Joins Blanco Vet Clinic Practice
Wednesday, June 6, 2012 • Posted June 7, 2012

Summer came in April to the Blanco Vet Clinic with the addition of a new veterinarian, Dr. Summer Woodward. A graduate of Tarleton State University and Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine (2011), Dr. Woodward first found Blanco on a drive home to Kerrville from College Station during her third year of vet school and stopped in at the clinic to check it out. Dr. Philip Schwarzlose, who was on call that Saturday, made her feel welcome, even letting her assist in a procedure he was doing at the time, and from that moment she decided she wanted to come back to work here. However, since there were no openings in the practice in 2011, she took a job at a clinic in San Antonio for a year, hoping to be hired in Blanco at a later date. She interviewed with Dr. David Behrends and began working in Blanco this April.

The daughter of an ag teacher and rancher, Dr. Woodward grew up in 4-H and FFA showing hogs and always knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. She is excited to be in a practice with both large and small animal specialties, calling that combination her dream job.

When asked about her hobbies, she responded enthusiastically that she loves to cook and do decorating and craft projects. But what she REALLY loves to do is hunt wild hogs with her boyfriend, who has a pack of dogs and high tech equipment to hunt them. She said if anyone needs hogs hunted, she would be happy to do it!

Dr. Woodward has already won the hearts of her four-legged patients and their owners and looks forward to getting to know the residents of Blanco.
