A Courthouse History Mystery Photo
Wednesday, June 20, 2012 • Posted June 22, 2012

Few photos exist that show the Old Blanco County Courthouse’s original cresting, decorative pieces that used to be atop the courthouse’s roof. This photo, a view of a building on the south lawn of the courthouse in the 1970s, shows that the cresting had been moved to the structure.

“What was the little building that the cresting was placed on?” asks Mark Coan with the Texas Historical Commission Historic Courthouse Program. “How and when did it acquire the cresting, and when did the cresting disappear from it?”

The Old Blanco County Courthouse Preservation Society is looking for more information, including photos and, hopefully, fragments, to help in replicating the cresting. A new, historically-accurate cresting will then be placed on the restored courthouse’s roof.

Do you have information about the cresting, or perhaps a photo that includes the feature? Call 830-833-2211.
