Wednesday, July 4, 2012 • Posted July 5, 2012

In a special ceremony at Blanco United Methodist Church, the Webelo Scouts of Pack 497 in Blanco were awarded their Arrow of Light. This is the highest award for a Cub Scout and the only award that follows a Cub Scout into adulthood. After receiving this special award, the Scouts were then presented to Scout Master Larry Kuebel by Cub Master Joe Lockwood and received into Troop 497 in a Crossover Ceremony. They will now begin their journey toward an even higher award, Eagle Scout.

Cub Scouting is part of the worldwide Scouting movement and aims to promote character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Boys first through fifth grade may join. The Arrow of Light award is available to Cub Scouts and requires the scout to have earned the Webelos badge and eight activity badges. In addition to the skill and activity requirements of the preceding ranks, the Arrow of Light requires Scouts to learn the Scout Promise and Scout Law, and visit one meeting and one activity of a Boy Scout troop, in preparation for advancing to the Boy Scouts.
