A new activity center is to be constructed in Bulverde to handle the physical, mental and social needs of its citizens over age 50. A community presentation is scheduled for 5:30 PM on Thursday, July 12th in the Bulverde Senior Center at 30280 Cougar Bend. At that time, Executive Director Laurie Wilson will unveil plans for the new facility. The 11,750 square foot building will be called the Bulverde Activity Center and will be located adjacent to the present senior center which is now 5,500 square feet. The facility will have an impact on the area by offering more health, fitness, wellness and nutritional classes. In a recent meeting, the City Council granted the Activity Center an additional 18 feet of land to expand its parking lot. The Bulverde Activity Center will continue to offer $20 annual membership dues for singles and $35 for couples and weekly aerobics, games, meals, crafts, speakers, plus annual events like the 5K Walk/Run, Sweetheart Dance and group trips during holidays. It will expand its senior outreach services with meal delivery, home health care, clergy services and minor home repairs. The present Bulverde Senior Center will still be in operation during construction of the new facility later this year.
