Baptist VBS Learns About Our Amazing God
Wednesday, July 11, 2012 • Posted July 13, 2012

Our Lord is great, vast in power; His understanding is infinite. Psalm 147:5 (HCSB)

That was the Bible verse for this year's VBS at First Baptist Church. Using Lifeway's "Amazing Wonders Aviation: Awesome God! Amazing Power!", and organized by Dawn Burnet and Karen Cox, kids from Pre-K through 6th grade participated in worship rallies, Bible studies, Missions activities, music, crafts, recreation, and snacks.

The sanctuary of the Baptist church was converted into a worship aviation hangar for the week and adult, middle school, and high school volunteers took the kids on a journey about God's amazing power over nature, circumstances, sin, death, and our lives. Daily themes included neon day, crazy hair day, and camo/animal print day. Throughout the week, the kids received raffle tickets for bringing their Bibles and canned goods for Good Samaritan. Several won small prizes in the daily drawings.

Monday started off the week with a Bible lesson about Joshua and the Israelites crossing the Jordan river (Joshua 3 & 4). Tuesday's lesson was about Daniel and the lion's den (Daniel 6:1-23). Wednesday, the kids focused on Luke 2:21-38 and 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, where Jesus is brought to the temple in Jerusalem to be dedicated to the Lord, and Mary and Joseph met Simeon and Anna. Also on Wednesday, FBC Pastor Rusty Hicks gave a special message on salvation. Three young people gave their lives to the Lord! Thursday's message was about Jesus dying on the cross and His resurrection (John 19:31-20:20). The kids got a special treat when the Heart of Texas Soaring Society, a radio contol model airplane club, demonstrated several model planes to the group. Friday wrapped up the week with a fly by from John Benham in his small plane. The final Bible lesson for the week came from Acts 5:12-42, which is the story about the Apostles when they were thrown in jail. The Apostles were set free by an angel of the Lord during the night and the officials found them teaching in the temple the next day. Finally, the kids performed a few of the songs they had learned in music rotation during the week for their parents and leaders.

Overall, it was a fantastic week filled with fun, learning, and fellowship. Personally, I was very blessed to be a part of it and already look forward to next year.
