Harvey Lee Thorp

Harvey Lee Thorp, 72, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at his home in Blanco after a long battle with COPD. Harvey was born on January 16, 1940 to George T. Thorp and Willie Mae Craig in Seguin, (Guadalupe County) Texas. He was preceded in death by both parents.

He spent his early childhood in Lockhart, but later lived in Austin where he attended public school. He entered the US Navy in 1957 at the age of 17 and was discharged in 1961. After serving with the Navy, he resided in California and Texas. He eventually returned to Austin permanently where he worked as a house painter with various contractors.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Carolyn Edwards Thorp and one brother, William T. (Sonny) Thorp of Blanco. He is also survived by children Sandra Elliott, Kathy Vega, Teddy Thorp and their mother, Sandra Thorp, all of Idaho. Survivors also include daughter Lourie Ann Gonsalez, step-children, Larry Williams, John Robert Williams, Jo Ann Daman and their mother, Virginia Louise Thorp, all of Austin. Additional survivors include step-daughters April Brian of Smithville and Marla Farris of Arkansas, son-in-law, Randy Brian of Smithville, 22 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 19th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Crofts Funeral Home in Blanco. Services will be Friday, July 20th at 11:00 AM at Crofts Funeral Home with Chaplain William Karlson officiating. Burial will follow at Miller Creek Cemetery on Hwy 290, east of Johnson City.
