Lies, Lies, Lies

“1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 2 If a soul sin, and commit a trespass against the Lord, and lie unto his neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep, or in fellowship, or in a thing taken away by violence, or hath deceived his neighbour; 3 Or have found that which was lost, and lieth concerning it, and sweareth falsely; in any of all these that a man doeth, sinning therein: 4 Then it shall be, because he hath sinned, and is guilty, that he shall restore that which he took violently away, or the thing which he hath deceitfully gotten, or that which was delivered him to keep, or the lost thing which he found, 5 Or all that about which he hath sworn falsely; he shall even restore it in the principal, and shall add the fifth part more thereto, and give it unto him to whom it appertaineth, in the day of his trespass offering.” Leviticus 6:1-5 Wow! Wouldn’t it be great if we kept this law! People wouldn’t lie so much if they knew they would have to restore what they deceitfully got plus “add the fifth part”, too!

Colossians 3:1-9 “1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. 5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: 7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. 8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. 9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;”

I know some people believe they are saved and will go to heaven if they have professed Jesus Christ as their Lord and have received Him into their hearts, even if they sin today, tomorrow or next year. They believe Christ has forgiven them for all their sins in their past, and all their sins in their future. But, I’m not so sure. What about what God’s Word says?

In Revelations 21:27 it is written: “27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”

To me this sounds very plain. He said “no thing” (that’s nothing) shall enter into it. Into what? He was talking about the new Jerusalem (heaven).

Verses 1 through 8 of Revelations 21 say “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

So, that tells me things that defile or maketh a lie shall not enter into heaven, but will burn with fire and brimstone. I hope I never tell a lie! Rahab told a lie. Wonder if she made it to heaven? It was for a good cause. Remember that one? Challenge for you to find it! You know, the more I read God’s Word, the more I learn that we really can’t trust anyone. No one is incorruptible, no, not even prophets! Yep, that’s right. I’ll share that with you next week (Lord willing).
