Mowery Celebrates 20 Years with City
Wednesday, August 15, 2012 • Posted August 16, 2012

On Friday, August 10, City Secretary Bobbie Mowery celebrated 20 years with the City of Blanco. Mayor Chuck Homan and the city employees took Bobbie out for lunch for the occasion.

Bobbie started at City Hall in 1992 during a period of turnover in the city and wasn’t sure she would be around for long. She wasn’t even sure she wanted to order business cards.

It feels like a few years ago when she started, Bobbie says, but then she thinks about what has happened in the 20 years. That includes 8 mayors.

Bobbie fondly remembers the older folks who are no longer around, like Ida Crow and Mr. Reininger who’d race in to pay their utility bills.

“It still amazes me. I didn’t think I’d ever live in a place for 20 years,” adds Bobbie. “We were military and were moving around every 2 or 3 years.”

Court clerk Beverly Burris has been with the city 14 years. Charles McCarty, who was director of public works, worked for the city the longest – nearly 25 years.

Will she beat the record? “I doubt it,” laughs Bobbie.
