Work Begins on Museum for Hye’s Legendary Baseball Team
Wednesday, August 15, 2012 • Posted August 16, 2012

The Deike All Brother Baseball Team was made up of the sons of Fritz Deike, who ran the cotton gin. In the mid-1930s, small town baseball teams were an escape from the troubles of life. The Deike team left the Hill Country for Wichita, Kansas, to play the All Brothers Baseball Championship in 1935.

Texas journalist Carlton Stowers wrote a book about the team, “Oh Brother How They Played the Game.” In his research, Stowers discovered that Lyndon B. Johnson was the only non-Deike to play on the team.

Now the first steps are being taken on creating a museum to honor the team. Right now, the founders are looking for photos and articles about the team playing.
