Wednesday, August 22, 2012 • Posted August 24, 2012

A high-speed pursuit broke out on Monday afternoon on US Highway 290 East. A DPS Trooper radioed dispatch to inform the county that she was in pursuit of a motorcycle heading east on the highway into Hays County.

The trooper registered a top speed of 148 miles per hour during the chase. The motorcyclist, identified by Blanco County as Edgar Cooney of Boerne, took a right turn onto Ranch Road 165 and headed toward Blanco at speeds over 130 miles per hour along the winding and hilly roadway.

Officers from all over the county converged on the ranch road to cut off the motorcyclist. As the pursuit approached the RR165 and State Loop 163 intersection in Blanco, the Trooper reportedly realized the motorcyclist wasn’t going to stop and used her vehicle to push him off the road.

Cooney was arrested in the grass next to the EMS station and charged with evading arrest, aggravated assault against a public servant, and deadly conduct.
