Museum to Unveil Western Exhibit
Wednesday, August 22, 2012 • Posted August 24, 2012

Another great week at the museum, but we are still getting ready for the new exhibit. As you have probably heard by now, the next exhibit is WESTERN! We are again asking the public to assist with this exhibit by loaning us their pictures, artifacts, and items associated with the Western lifestyle. Now we would like to have some old barbed wire examples, spurs, bull whips, tin-types of people in the 1800s, but anything new or old will be used. This exhibit will have a lot of information about the cowboy and trail drives from Texas. Of course, the cowboy and trail drives did not last a long time so then arrive the pioneers, places like Blanco and Johnson City became farming and ranching areas with hardy people, who blazed the wild territory and built our towns.

I am informing you we have a lot more paperwork for items that are loaned to us because of the program we have started in the museum. The STEPS program requires more information about your items for not only display purposes but for our information to be correct when talking about the item. Come ready to spend more time with us because of the new procedures.

We are still returning items from WWII displays, so, if we have not called you, please call us to pick up your items. We don’t have much left, but we need to get it to you so the next display can move in its place.

Reminder, the final WWII movie will be shown this week so try to come and see at least one of these movies. They are very informative. The movies show the war differently so the whole family can enjoy and learn. The Americans in the Bulge showing will be Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 6:30 pm to 8 pm and a second showing will be Saturday, August 25, 2012 from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm. Length of movie 90 minutes.

Reminder: I received an email from Mr. Jeffrey Kerr today. He asked me how long he could talk at his book signing. My reply was as long as he wanted as long as he kept you interested because you are now his neighbors in the community and if you were bored, he would never live it down. But fellow readers, you will enjoy this book signing so come out to support Mr. Kerr and get to know him as only you can do. Refreshments will be served.

Well, the hour is late and this article has gotten long, so I must stop for now but get your Western items to us so we can display them.
