In a old episode of Candid Camera, children were placed in a room with a plate of cookies. One of the cookies was larger than the rest. The children all took the big cookie. The host of the program, Alan Funt, told one of the children, "I would have eaten the little cookie and given you the biggest one." Without a blink the boy responded, "Then you got the one you wanted."
Reflect for a moment with me on how our Father in heaven has generously made available to us the best of all things through His Son Jesus Christ. In Ephesians 1:8, the writer speaks of the grace of the Lord, which it says has been "lavished upon us". It's a word which means 'over and above a certain measure', or 'to overflow', 'to exceed'. In Romans 5:15, Paul uses the same word in regards to the grace of God through the gift of Christ, and says it did "abound to the many."
Our Father through the magnificent gift of Jesus on the cross has provided more than enough for our forgiveness. No matter your sin or place in life, God's grace can cover the past and show a better way. By the way, in Luke 15:17 when the Prodigal son thought of home and his desire to return, he used this same word when he said, "My father's hired men have more than enough bread, but I am dying here with hunger!" There is more than enough to fix what we think is unfixable, don't despair, just come home.
