With Christ, one can say, “Everything is okay in the end, if it’s not okay, it’s not the end.”
In Colossians 1:4-5 we see, as we do in other places in scripture, these three - faith, love, and hope. The apostle Paul speaks of the Colossians faith in Christ, their love for the all the saints, and their hope, which he says is laid up in heaven. How desperately our generation needs these three things today. Think of the opposite- faithless, without love, and hopeless, and you have a good description of the reason behind many of the problems we face in this present generation. The message of God’s word changed all that for these believers at Colossae and can change it for you as well.
Unfortunately, some believe in nothing more than themselves, for them there is no higher standard. Some have not known love and are seeking to belong, but end up isolated, or belonging to something that brings out the worst in them instead of the best. Some are hopeless, or have experienced false hope over and over again.
The gospel of Jesus Christ in the answer. He is the light. He is the bread of life. He is the good Shepherd. Jesus once looked out over the multitude and, “Felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and downcast like sheep without a shepherd” (Matthew 9:36). He has come to bring faith, to bring love, and give us hope!
