Driver Safe After Flood Waters Trap Truck
Wednesday, September 19, 2012 • Posted September 21, 2012

A truck was found on a low-water ford just off RR 1623, about 3 miles from Blanco, during the deluge of rain last Thursday, September 13. The lights were on and the engine was running, reported Blanco Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Lynn Hicks.

Crews from Blanco VFD, Spring Branch FD, and Johnson City VFD were called in to attempt a swift water rescue. Blanco EMS was also on scene to assist.

When everyone was in position down river, Hicks said, a team went out into the river to check on the vehicle. The occupant wasn’t inside or under the truck; the team was then called back to the bank.

A Johnson City firefighter, on his way back to meet up with the other personnel, then heard someone call for help. The individual had crawled out of the water after being swept downriver from the vehicle and was safely on the bank, Hicks reported.
