Retired Educators Attend District Meeting

Five officers of Blanco County Association of Retired Educators (BCARE) attended the Region 13 meeting of Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) on Friday, September 21 in San Marcos. Those in attendance were President Jan Booth, Vice-President Mary Nabers, Second Vice-President Henrietta Smith, Benefits Chairman Rebecca Howerton, and Legislative Chairman Carole Smith.

Guest speaker was Bryan Guthrie, Executive Director of the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) of Texas, a position appointed by Governor Rick Perry. Mr. Guthrie reviewed the eight findings of the TRS pension and health care study directed by the Texas Legislature in 2011. The next meeting of BCARE is Thursday, October 25th at 11:30 at Uptown Blanco. The new TRS/Aetna Medicare Advantage health plan option will be presented, and each attendee will receive a summary of the eight findings of the TRS study. All retirees from the Texas public school system currently living in Blanco County are invited to attend.
