It’s hard to believe that Blanco is the home of not only a great high school football team and band, the beautiful Blanco State Park, the multi-faceted Lavender Festival, but also world-class classical music in the lovely Uptown Blanco Ballroom. Blanco Performing Arts presents their third season, opening on Saturday, November 10 at 7:30 pm with Melissa Marse, pianist. She grew up in Austin and is a UT, Juilliard, Yale, and New England Conservatory graduate and has played concerts worldwide and across the USA. A high point was her Carnegie Hall debut with the Lincoln Piano Trio, presented by Isaac Stern. She’s also sings with the renowned Conspirare vocal ensemble and is founding Artistic Director of the Houston Chamber Music Society. Her program will include music of the French composer, Claude Debussy. Debussy (1862-1918) wrote some of the most memorable music for the piano evoking through sound the watery, wispy sounds of the French countryside in pieces such as Claire de Lune and energetic, rhythmic dances such as Golliwog’s Cakewalk. She will also share her thoughts about the music to enhance the experience.
Other performers for the season include REVEL, the classical band, returning by popular demand, Therese Honey and Abby Green in a St. Patrick’s Day Celtic music celebration, and Jolente de Maeyer, violinist, and Nikolass Kende, pianist, from Belgium, stopping here on their Texas tour. Season tickets are available for $105 for all 4 concerts for adults, $95 for seniors 60 and over, $60 for youth 18 and under. Season ticket holders get 4 concerts for the price of 3 and preferential seating at the concerts. Uptown Blanco Restaurant will have specials for concert goers and Texas Hills Vineyard wines will be featured with hors d’oeuvres on the veranda before the concert.
