San Antonio Livestock Expo Volunteers Canvas Blanco; Present Check to FFA

On Friday, January 9, at approximately 9:50am, the Blanco County Square became a bustling area.

Around seventy volunteers for the San Antonio Livestock Exposition came to spread the word about the 60th Annual San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo and also presented the Blanco ISD Future Farmers of America a check to be used for scholarships.

Present to receive the check were FFA officers: Shelby Moore, Keaton Dodd, John Pepper, Quaid Haack, Grady Childress, Claire Klepac, Katie Baker, Kaleigh Anderson and Corey Dowlearn.

Presenting the check were: Frances Farrero, Chairperson for the SALE, David Poole, Assistant Chairperson, and Jenny Fischer, Tour Chair.

“The recipients of these FFA scholarships always amaze me,” David Poole said. “They represent some of the brightest and hard working students that I have ever met.”

The group began giving out funds for scholarships in 1984 and to date have raised approximately $87,000,000. In 2008 alone, they dispersed $8.5 million dollars.

In its’ 60th year, the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo has been ranked the number one largest indoor rodeo in the United States since 2004. They also boast the largest Junior Stock Show and Rodeo in the US. In 2008, 1.3 million people came through the gates for the event.

Advisors for Blanco FFA are Jason and Felice Marek and consists of around 190 students.
