Uptown Blanco Art Center art class open for homeschoolers
Wednesday, January 14, 2009 • Posted January 13, 2009

Reading, Writing and Arithmetic are all important parts of a homeschooling curriculum but what about Art.

Most parents homeschooling their children have no problem teaching the black and white text book subjects. However, when it comes to the arts like drawing, painting and music, many homeschooling parents are looking for more specialized outside assistance.

Blanco County, like the rest of the Nation, has a growing number of homeschoolers. The USA Today reported recently that the ranks of America’s home-schooled children have continued a steady climb over the past five years. The number of home-schooled kids in America hit 1.5 million in 2007, up 74% from when the Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics started keeping track in 1999.

To assist our local homeschooling kids, Uptown Blanco Art Center has just announced a new class dedicated to homeschoolers. Instructor Suzette Connell said, “This art class will include a rich variety of art supplies and techniques from collage to ceramics incorporating art history and cultural enrichment. Homeschooled children will have an opportunity to make new friends while exploring different mediums in the art world.”

The Homeschoolers Art Class is open to homeschooled children from 5 to11 years old, taught by Suzette Connell and meets Thursdays from 1:00 to 3:00pm.
