Lady Panthers Go Full Force During Holidays

The Varsity Lady Panthers did not take time to slow down over the holidays with district quickly approaching them. On December 29-29 they participated in the Sixth Annual Wimberley Hoop Fest.

The Panthers first game was against the San Marcos Rattler who is a 5A school.

The Panthers took the lead in the first period with a score of 17-11.

The Rattlers gained a little momentum in the second period as they sank 12 points but Blanco continued to hold on to the lead as they halftime buzzer went off the score was Blanco 24, San Marcos 23.

As the teams returned to the court for the last half of the game the Panthers soon found themselves in foul trouble with Sarah Isenberg, Sarah Kocurek and Crystal Thomas all sitting in danger by the end of the third period the Panthers had lost their lead with a score 37-42.

As the fourth period began the Panthers made their moved and closed the game and was only trailing by two points when a foul was called on Thomas, this put her on the bench for the remainder of the game. The Rattlers sank 16 points in less then two minutes giving them a large lead. As the clock ticked down, the Panthers were told to foul, Madeline Walker who was guarding the guard did not make the foul, leaving it up to Isenberg who already had four fouls making this her fifth, she joined Thomas on the bench. The Panther fell into the consolations bracket as they were defeated with a final score e65-51.

High scorer was Alisa Guler with a total of 21 points, followed by Kocurek who had 10, Lacee Hunter with eight points, Walker and Isenberg each finished with five points and Thomas had two points.

The next game for the Panthers was less then three hours later when they went up against Gonzales who is a 3A school.

The Lady Panthers held close in the first period as they only trailed by three points at the end of the first period with a scorer 17-14.

By half time the Panthers had fallen 10 points behind, but they did not give up.

As the teams returned from half time the Panthers only sank four points in the third period while allowing Gonzales to score 13 points.

The Panthers who were dragging by the fourth period fell to defeat with a final score 76 – 49.

High scorer was Kocurek with 12 points followed by Thomas and Guler who each had nine points. Isenberg had eight points while Hunter sank seven points. Walker and Carla Martinez each had two points.

On Saturday, the Panthers returned to Wimberley for the final game which was against St. Andrews.

The Lady Panthers took a while to get started as they only sank 10 points and allowed St. Andrews to score only three points.

By half time the Panthers a total of 26 points while St. Andrews was quickly sneaking up as they sank a total of 19 points.

As they teams returned after halftime the Panthers stepped it up and sank 17 points and held St. Andrews to only nine points. Once again the Panthers found themselves in foul trouble with Thomas and Guler each sitting with four, Claire Klepac and Isenberg and Hunter each had three.

The game went in favor of the Panthers as Blanco took a victory with a final score 64-34.

High scorer was Guler with 20 points followed by Isenberg who had 11 points. Klepac finished with nine points while Hunter and Thomas each seven points. Kocurek finished with six points and Martinez had four points. The Panthers finished with seventh place.

The Lady Panthers will travel to Sonora on Friday, January 4 to face Sonora for their first district game of the season.
