Thanks to the generous donation by Brad Farbstein and Gabriel Gregerman, owners of Blanco’s Real Ale Brewing company, to Friends of the Blanco State Park, the Park has a new entry portal. Designed by Jay West and constructed by Matt Becker of T. Becker Masonry, Inc, along with the strong support of Danny Ray of D. Ray Construction, the new portal is located at the entrance to the State Park and is highly visible to travelers on U.S. Highway 281. In keeping with the theme of the structures built by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) within the Park, the portal is constructed of the same type stone and grout. The purpose of erecting the portal was to more clearly identify the Park entrance to new visitors to the Park. Although surprising to local residents, many out-of-town visitors have stated that they had trouble finding the Park’s entrance!
Texas Parks & Wildlife magazine recently described the Blanco State Park as a “small Park with a big punch.” That phrase captures the essence of Blanco State Park. Recent and upcoming activities such as the Night Skies Star Gazing (February 9th), Raptor Weekend, and events such as Buffalo Soldiers Outdoors Day on February 9th, each sponsored by Friends of the Blanco State Park, indicate the enthusiasm and love of the Park and all it offers.
If you share the love of the Blanco State Park and are committed to its preservation, protection and improvement, please consider becoming a “Friend’ of the Blanco State Park. Membership forms are located in the Park entry office or on line at: www.blancoparkfriends.org. See you in the Park!
