So you want to add a Man Cave, no problem. There are many ways to do this. If you have a garage or extra room in your home will be a great start. If not, you can add a metal building, small shed, or remodel that large attic. So many options are available.
What is a Man Cave? Believe it or not, Man Cave is in Wikipedia. And the definition is: A man cave, sometimes a manland, mantuary or manspace, is a male sanctuary, such as a specially equipped garage, spare bedroom, media room, den, or basement. It is not a cave but rather a metaphor describing a room inside the house, such as the basement or garage or attic or office, or outside the house such as a wood shed or tool room, where "guys can do as they please" without fear of upsetting any female sensibility about house decor or design. Paula Aymer of Tufts University calls it the "last bastion of masculinity". While a wife may have substantial authority over a whole house in terms of design and decoration, she generally has no say about what gets "mounted on the walls" of a man's personal space. Since it may be accepted that a woman has input on the decoration of the rest of the house, a man cave or man space is in some sense a reaction to feminine domestic power.
Purpose of a man cave is really what it says. It is the space for the man. It is important for the man to have his own space, to do as he pleases, decorating it to his taste, etc. Having this area, also means, he can clean or not clean, spill a beer, have a huge flat screen, tools of course, pool table, or what ever strikes his fancy. Lady’s do not attempt to clean or re-arrange this area! I even recently saw a man cave with a doggy door. How cool is that?
How do you go about designing a man cave? If you have a garage, room in the house or going to build something, you need to know what you might want. You might want to have electricity included, along with water. You might want a bathroom. In your bathroom, you might want a toilet, sink and maybe a shower. Plan a wall for that flat screen TV. Don’t forget that A/C and heating unit. If you like a bar, you might want to add a small sink. Work benches come in handy for those special hobbies or project. And maybe an intercom system to talk to the wife and kids.
No, you can’t live in the man cave. It is a nice get away space only. It will be your special area. Think about what you would like and start planning. Of course your local builders can make your dream a reality.
