The Blanco Volunteer Fire Department held their annual fundraiser on April 6th at the fire station. The members were overwhelmed with the attendance of supporters.
Thanking everyone is almost impossible. We had so many volunteers, members and non members that did whatever they could to help make the fish fry a success. It is a lot of work, but, oh what fun. Everyone loves doing it for the community.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone, the department raised $22,000.00 which will be applied toward replacing a twenty-two year old brush truck.
Thank you to Bobby Uecker for overseeing the seasoning, Katy baker and her crew for breading the fish, the volunteers for frying the fish, etc. and carrying the food out to the LCRA trailer and the ‘in house line’. We can always depend on Melvin Sultemeier to cook those delicious beans and for Dorothy Troppy to provide the cole slaw.
I had a bunch of great ladies that brought desserts - What a selection. Thank you to Cheryl Eckenrode, Helen Knoll, and Beverly Corradini for serving all those delicious desserts. We missed Rebecca Howerton, who passed away earlier this year. She helped for years on the dessert line, always bringing her fly swatter. I organized the dessert station, and helped wherever needed.
Wendy Smith and her crew took care of the tea station. Bobby Brewer drove to Llano to pick up the beer and took the empties back on Monday. The beer is donated by Ben E. Keith (Thank you so much). They have done this for years. Armando Delgado, our DJ, announced the raffle winners and played some great music.
We appreciate LCRA for loaning the department their trailer for the “to go” line.
Thank you to Stefan Sasko and his wife Barbara from J/C, who with the help of volunteers, tried to keep the line moving. This was the first year we had the drive thru, and we had a few problems, but they will be worked out by next year.
Larry Kuebel and his Boy Scouts were a big help. They ran all kinds of errands.
People enjoyed sitting at the picnic tables that the Blanco State Park loaned us. Thank you.
A special thanks, to everyone who donated items for the raffle prizes, Jimmy Klepac for flower arrangements, and anyone else who donated something to our fundraiser.
Charles Willgren of the Blanco County News has always been great for supporting the BVFD by posting articles and pictures of our fundraiser. Charles has found a new job in Austin and won’t be editor of the BCN. We wish him “Good Luck” and welcome the new editor Merannda Button.
Again THANK YOU so much for your support either by volunteering or by your donation. We are so appreciative.
Come join us again next year in April; Meanwhile don’t forget to support Johnson City’s Volunteer Fire Department at their fundraiser in May.
