Citizens Gather to Keep Blanco Beautiful

On Saturday, April 13, young people and adults swarmed all over Blanco picking up litter carelessly left along the road side. The week prior to the trash-off event saw many Blanco City residents haul unwanted items to the city yard for disposal. Members of the City Council, friends and family along with city employees gave up their Saturday morning to cruising the streets for piles to junk left for collection. Here are the facts:

74 trash bags full of litter were collected on Saturday

90 youth participated

45 adults helped out

6 40yd roll-offs were filled at the City Yard

4 20 yd roll offs were needed

2 30 yd boxes of metal were sent for recycling

The Boy Scouts, FFA and Friends of the State Park cleaned the banks of the river. Thescouts used their canoes and kayaks in the water to gather the floating debris. 30 bags of trash and 2 tires were removed from the waterway.

Please do your part to Keep Blanco Beautiful! Pick up litter when you see it. Make sure nothing blows out of the back of your pick-up. Do not throw bottles and cans out of your vehicle. Dispose of trash properly!
