"I don’t want you to die, says the Sovereign Lord"

My friend asked me about prayer, and I quoted John 15:7 “If you live in Me [abide vitally united to Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.” AMP She said she thought God only did what was His will. Here’s what I found.

It is God’s will that we live and prosper. He gave us boundaries, which all children need, and promises for obedience. Just like a chore chart we give our kids, so they’ll clean up their room and earn reward points or allowances.

God's blessings include life with good health, prosperity for us and our kids! Deut. 28:4 & 11. He said “if you hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all His commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:” Deuteronomy 28:1 KJV

How sad I wasn’t told some of this stuff when I was younger. Some day take time to read Deuteronomy 28:1-68. It has 21 blessings for obedience and, if you choose to disobey, there are 15 curses upon children and material possessions, 26 new and old curses of defeat, captivity, sickness, persecution and insanity, 8 reasons for curses restored, 21 curses of slavery, death, cannibalism, extreme poverty and death, and 20 more curses for disobedience.

Deuteronomy 28 explains a lot. I was at Best Buy last weekend, and I shared the following scripture with a girl. Ephesians 6:1-3-“1Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

2Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;

3That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth." KJV

She said “too bad it’s too late for you!” I said “No, my mother’s still around, so it’s not too late!”

In Ezekiel chapter 18:27-32 God told Ezekiel "27 And if wicked people turn from their wickedness, obey the law, and do what is just and right, they will save their lives. 28 They will live because they thought it over and decided to turn from their sins. Such people will not die. 29 And yet the people of Israel keep saying, ‘The Lord isn’t doing what’s right!’ O people of Israel, it is you who are not doing what’s right, not I.

30 “Therefore, I will judge each of you, O people of Israel, according to your actions, says the Sovereign Lord. Repent, and turn from your sins. Don’t let them destroy you! 31 Put all your rebellion behind you, and find yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O people of Israel? 32 I don’t want you to die, says the Sovereign Lord. Turn back and live!”

Notice verses 27 & 28. So even if I didn’t know about the obedience promise of long life in Ephesians 6:1-4, I know now, and I can receive what God wants to give me even now. I just have to get Mom to tell me to do something so I can obey her!

What about verse 32? God says “I don’t want you to die!” He said “Turn back and live!” That whole chapter is very interesting.

Anyway, back to promises and prayers. Jesus is the curse breaker, and He said "Have faith in God. 23 Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:22-24

Hebrews 11:6”6And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”

James 1:5-8 “5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
