Blanco County Mysteries Being Developed for TV
Wednesday, May 22, 2013 • Posted May 23, 2013

Fans of Ben Rehder’s Blanco County mysteries featuring game warden John Marlin might get a chance to see the entertaining tales brought to the small screen.

In 2011, Warner Brothers Horizon Scripted Television, in association with Tom Welling Productions, optioned the broadcast rights to the novels. Rob Thomas, creator of the cult favorite Veronica Mars, was recruited to act as showrunner and writer. Thomas wrote a pilot script earlier this year, and now the show is officially in development with USA Network, the top cable network.

“There are still some hurdles to jump before the show will ever air,” says Rehder, “but most options don’t get this far, so it’s very exciting. USA Network currently has eight dramas in development, and Blanco County is one of them.”

The debut novel in the series, Buck Fever, was published in 2002 by St. Martin’s Minotaur, and it landed Rehder an Edgar Award nomination for Best First Novel. There have been five more Blanco County mysteries since then, with a seventh to be published in the next few weeks. All are available on Amazon in e-book, print, and audio format.
