The Friends of the Blanco Library had their Annual Membership meeting May 15th. Jenny Bailey who is a historian, policy analyst, and water law attorney, presented a wonderful program about preserving cemeteries. She lived in the Houston area for many years and helped to develop preservation groups for African American cemeteries. She also formed an internship program for youth who learned how to perform genealogy and historical research to bring those who had passed back to life.

Mrs. Bailey has recently moved to Blanco and looks forward to continuing her research. Barney Cline, the Blanco historian who is head of the Oral History Committee collecting oral histories of long time Blanco residents, is featured in this picture with Jenny Bailey. You can check out some of the oral histories collected from the library. A couple of interviews available include Jasper Upshaw and Leon Coffee.

Special Announcements: the bats have returned to the library. If you want to make memorable night for your kids, bring them around dusk to watch the bats fly out of their white houses in the library’s back parking lot. The Blanco Library will be CLOSED May 27, for Memorial Day, no library items are due that day.
