Blanco Third-Graders Enjoy a Day in the Park
Wednesday, May 22, 2013 • Posted May 23, 2013

In spite of a night of severe weather and widespread power outages, the fourth annual Third Grade Day in the Park went off without a hitch. Thanks to volunteers from the Highland Lakes Chapter of Master Naturalists, Friends of Blanco State Park, and class teachers and sponsoring parents, 85 third-grade students spent Friday, May 10, learning about area wildlife and nature at our state park

The students rotated through stations where they learned about mammals, fish, birds, habitat, spiders, water conservation and more. They enjoyed lunch around the historic CCC pavilion and completed their day with a program on reptiles presented by Jared Holmes, a local herpetologist. Each student took home a packet of fun activities and information to share with their parents and reinforce what they learned.

Friends of Blanco State Park want to thank the park staff, parents, teachers, Master Naturalist volunteers, some who drove more than an hour to be here with the students, and Blanco ISD for giving these children the chance to experience the joy of outdoor learning.
