Perry Will Not Seek a Fourth Term
Wednesday, July 10, 2013 • Posted July 11, 2013

On Monday, July 8, Governor Rick Perry announced in San Antonio that he will not run for re-election in 2014.

Perry has served as the Governor of Texas since assuming the governorship in 2000, when then-Governor George W. Bush resigned after being elected President.

Prior to his time as Governor, Perry served in the Texas Legislature, was the Agriculture Commissioner and was elected as the Lieutenant Governor of Texas in 1998. He is the fourth Texas governor to serve three terms.

Over the course of his 27 years in politics, Perry has never lost an election.

During his announcement on Monday, Perry did not confirm nor deny whether or not he planned to run in the 2016 Presidential Election.
