Real Estate and Home building crosses over many times. Being the owner of a Real Estate company and a General Contractor business, I see articles in some of my publication that relates to the other hat I wear. In this case, I was reading an article on my National Association of Realtors site that pertained to the 2013 Building trends. These trends will be shaped by how long current home buyers will stay in their homes and what future home buyers will want.
Here are a few of the 2013 trends that are being seen or set - Sustainable Building, outdoor living styles, smart controls within a home, more media throughout, neutral colors mixed with bright colors, more open concepts, energy and water efficient, and always stylish kitchens and bathrooms.
Sustainable building is still the talk. Green…Green… Green…. Whether you are building traditional or not, you can incorporate some sustainability in your home. This can be from the type of stains and paints, to the rain water collection systems, to wind and solar usage. There are many options to go with.
Outdoor living is extremely popular. This can be from a simple deck to a full facelift on your backyard. Patios are being added with fireplaces or fire pits. Hot tub and swimming pools are another big item. For kiddos – there are fancy playground sets to add. For those animals, don’t forget the houses and pens. Lighting and landscaping provide the extra “oh yeah” feeling.
Smart Controls and Media kinda go hand and hand. There are Media rooms being added for home pleasure. Smart controls can be lighting devices you can turn on to your house from your car, or set on timers throughout the house. Wiring for Internet, security, and more are like a requirement nowadays. There are sound systems throughout the home. Fireplaces that turn on by a remote. Everything we saw growing up on sci-fi is a reality now.
Neutral colors will always be in. More people are using bright colors on paint and carpet. Remember the old green from the 1970s; it can even be seen in some of the new homes’ carpet and paint. If you are selling your home, always stick with neutral colors.
Open concepts are very popular. Big kitchens that open to a family room are in big demand. Cozy master baths with huge walk-in showers and jetted tubs are almost a must. Some master baths include a fireplace too. Kitchens have lots of cabinets, countertops, sometimes double ovens, subzero refrigerators, multiple sinks, just to name a few items.
These are just a few of the things that are hot for the year 2013. Talk to your builder or real estate agent more to get more updates.
