After suffering their first loss of the year in Luling two weeks ago, the Blanco Panthers returned home to host the San Antonio Christian Lions with hopes of regaining their winning form. However, the Lions proved to be in control of the game from the opening kickoff as they returned to San Antonio with a 35-11 victory. The loss evens the Panthers’ record at 2 and 2 for the year.
The game started fast for the Lions as they jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter of play. Blanco’s defense stepped up in the second quarter and turned back any possible scoring threats that SAC threw at them. However, the Panther offense failed to cross the goal line while the defense was credited with a safety to avoid a first half shutout as the Panthers trailed 14-2 at the half.
The second half began just as the first did, with SAC adding two more scores to increase their lead to 28-2 going into the fourth. With just one quarter left to play, Blanco finally scored a TD as Colton Elrod bulled his way into the end zone from 2 yards out. Aikman Elrod added the PAT to cut the score to 28-9. Blanco’s defense then recorded another safety to make the score 28-11 with just over 7 minutes remaining. However, any hopes of a Blanco comeback proved to be short-lived as SAC added a fifth touchdown and successful PAT to make the final score 35-11.
From an offensive standpoint, Blanco totaled almost 200 yards on the night, with Logan Dodd leading the way with 165 all-purpose yards. On defense, the Panthers held SAC to just 70 yards rushing as a team but gave up a season high of 291 yards through the air.
Blanco will be open this week as they prepare to begin district play Friday, October 4th, when they travel to Rogers to take on the State-ranked Eagles. Kickoff in Rogers is set for 7:30 pm.
