The 8th grade Panther football team members were happy to play their first game of the season on Tuesday, September 17, after their season opener the week before against Luling was cancelled due to inclement weather.

With storms threatening again, the Panthers ignored the clouds and won the game against the San Antonio Christian Lions, 8-0. The Panthers kicked off to the Lions. Brandon Phipps and Draven Diamond made the stop on the kickoff return. Will Granberg made a tackle and then recovered a lion fumble. After carries by Granberg and Quarterback Kelby Cox, the Lions held the Panthers on 4th down to take over on downs. On defense tackles were made by Phipps, Diamond, Granberg, Cox, Cade Smith, Peyton Van Dyke, Griffin Wearden, and Jonathon Merritt.

After advancing to the Panther 12 yard line, the Lion offense was stopped and Blanco took possession of the ball again.

Blanco moved the ball down field on a pass from Cox to Toby Triesch, and a 6 yard run by Granberg and a 21 yard dash by Merritt. Triesch drove the Panthers closer to the goal line on a 23 yard carry to the 1 yard line. Two plays later, Triesch charged his way into the endzone for the touchdown, and also scored the following 2 point conversion. Blanco led 8-0. After Isaiah Delgado’s kick off for the Panthers, the defense held the Lions as the clock ran down for the halftime intermission.

The Lions kicked off to begin the second half with Granberg making a 10 yard return to the Panther 35 yard line. Triesch, Merritt, and Granberg carried the ball for Blanco. Blanco was forced to punt and SAC took over on their own 45. The Blanco defense held firm again with tackles by Phipps. SAC was forced to punt and the Panthers offense took possession on their own 17 yard line. Blanco drove 77 yards on runs by Triesch, Granberg, Cox, and Merritt to move the ball to the SAC 6 yard line where Cox took a knee to run the last few seconds off the clock. The Panthers won the game 8-0.
