The 7th grade Panthers football team shutout the San Antonio Christian Lions on Tuesday September 17, to bring their season record to 2-0.
The Panthers kicked off to the Lions with Blanco holding tight on defense forcing SAC to punt. Cade Felps, Justin Wardlow, Zach Collins, and Chris Osteguin tallied tackles in the opening series. Wardlow returned the punt 12 yards to the 50 yard line to set up the Panthers first scoring drive. Quarterback Eddie Calzoncit hit Tristan Fortner with a pass for a 30 yard gain. Four plays later, Calzoncit scored on a 5 yard keeper. Calzoncit found Fortner in the endzone for the 2 point conversion. With 2:38 remaining in the 1st quarter, Blanco led 8-0. After the Blanco kick off the Panther defense again forced SAC to punt.
Outstanding tackles were made by Wardlow, Calzoncit, Corbin Diamond, and Matthew Ledesma. Chance Horton stopped a Lion for a 3 yard loss.
The Panther offense took over on their own 29 yard line. Wardlow carried the ball for runs of 6 yards, 4 yards, and 21 yards. Felps added 11 yards to put the Panthers in scoring position. Four plays later, Calzoncit hit Wardlow in the endzone to score 6 more for Blanco. The 2 point conversion attempt was no good. With 24 seconds left in the half, Blanco took a 14-0 lead.
After the halftime break, the Lions kicked off to the Panthers. Wardlow picked up 25 yards on the return. The Panthers lost the ball on a fumble and SAC advanced to the Panther 26 yard line.
Once again the Blanco defense was stingy, forcing the Lions to give up the ball on downs. Defensive stops were made by Diamond, Wardlow, and Collins. Back on offense, the Panthers moved the ball to the Lions 11 yard line on a combination of runs by Wardlow, Felps, and Fortner. However, the Lions held tight and forced the Panthers to give up the ball on downs. Back on defense, Wardlow and Horton sacked the SAC quarterback for a 7 yard loss. Jacob Lopez tackled the Lion ball carrier and the Panthers regained possession of the ball. Blanco took the win with the final score 14-0.
