The 7th grade Blanco football team soundly defeated the Comfort Bobcats 30-12 on Thursday, September 26.
After Chris Osteguin booted the kick-off for Blanco, Comfort set up their offense on their own 40 yard line. After picking up two 1st downs, the Bobcats were forced to turn over the ball on a bad snap to their punter.
In the opening series, tackles were made by Zach Collins, Justin Wardlow, Cade Felps, Cooper Riley, Matthew Ledesma, and Chance Horton. After a Panther fumble, Comfort moved the ball downfield and 7plays later, scored a touchdown. CJ Diamond and Blake Brandon made strong tackles. Felps made the stop on the 2 point conversion attempt. Blanco trailed Comfort, 0-6, with 4:46 remaining in the 2nd quarter. Wardlow returned the Comfort kickoff to the Panther 49. Felps and Wardlow combined yardage, moving the ball to the 25 yard line. Tristan Fortner dashed 25 yards to score for Blanco. The conversion attempt failed. With 2:16 in the 2nd quarter, the Panthers and Bobcats were tied at 6. Osteguin kicked off again for Blanco , with Lane Lowak and Eddie Calzoncit stopping the Bobcat on the return. Ledesma, Diamond, and Brandon Foth made stops on the Comfort ball carriers. The halftime score remained tied at 6. Comfort kicked off to begin the 2nd half and Blanco moved the ball on an 8 yard run by Felps and a 6 yard gain by Wardlow. Felps then ran 55 yards for the Panther touchdown. Wardlow dashed into the endzone for the 2 point conversion. Blanco led 14-6. After the kickoff, Comfort was forced to punt.The Panther offense took over on their own 26 yard line. Felps and Wardlow again moved the ball down the field with their offensive line clearing the way. Fortner dashed 21 yards for another Blanco touchdown. Felps scored the 2 point conversion. Blanco led 22 to 6 with 15 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. Comfort fumbled the kickoff return and Calzoncit recovered the ball on the Comfort 38 yard line. The Panthers moved the ball to the 13 yard line and Felps charged the way into the endzone for the score. Calzoncit hit Fortner with a pass for the 2 point conversion. With 3:16 remaining in the game, the Panthers led 30-6. After the Blanco kickoff Comfort moved the ball to the Panther 10 and then scored a touchdown. Good tackles were made by Osteguin, Jacob Lopez, and Ernesto Gonzales. Lowak broke up the 2 point conversion pass attempt. With only 29 seconds left in the game, Wardlow returned the Bobcat kickoff 40 yards to the 50 yard line. The Panthers beat the Bobcats 30-12 and now hold a 3-0 season record.
