The 8th grade Blanco Panthers shut out the Comfort Bobcats, 20-0, on Thursday, September 26. Isaiah Delgado kicked off for Blanco. The Panther defense held the Bobcats, forcing Comfort to punt. With the Panther offense starting on their own 29, WIll Granberg picked up 10 yards and Toby Triesch rushed for 22 yards. Then from the 36 yard line, Granberg dashed to the endzone for the Blanco touchdown. The PAT attempt was no good. With 3:48 in the 1st quarter, Blanco led 6-0. On the Blanco kickoff, Draven Diamond and Cade Smith made the stop. Defensive tackles were made by Jared Spriggs, Brandon Phipps, Kelby Cox, Jonathon Merritt, Smith, and Diamond. Comfort was forced to punt. After a Panther fumble, the defense again stepped up with stops by Wyatt Perkins, Griffin Wearden, Spriggs and Phipps. The Blanco offense took over on the Blanco 35 yard line and Granberg picked up 40 yards for the Panthers. Triesch ran 10 yards for the next Panther TD. The 2 point conversion was no good. With 3:39 remaining in the 2nd quarter, Blanco led 12-0. After the kickoff by Delgado, Comfort moved the ball to the Blanco 20 yard line. Outstanding tackles were made by Granberg, Triesch, Wearden, Spriggs, and Phipps. The ball went over to Blanco on a failed 4th down attempt by Comfort. Then Comfort took possession of the ball on the Blanco 3 yard line after a Blanco fumble. The Panther defense rose to the occasion with a tackle by Phipps, a Comfort incomplete pass and an interception by Triesch. The Panthers led 12-0 at the half.
After the Comfort kick off, the Panther offense was forced to punt. The Blanco defense stopped the Bobcats again and took over on downs on the Comfort 49 yard line.
Granberg carried the ball to the 35. Then Cox hit Sebastian Flores with a pass down the right sideline for a 24 yard gain. Granberg drove the ball in from the 11 yard line for another Panther touchdown. Cox ran the ball in for the 2 point conversion.
Blanco led 20-0 with 1:43 left in the 3rd quarter. After the Panther kickoff, Comfort took over on their own 35 yard line. After picking up two first downs, the Bobcats were stopped on the Blanco 39, with the ball going over on downs to the Panthers. Back on offense Blanco’s Mario Sanchez picked up 4 yards before Cox took a knee to run out the clock. The Panthers held on for the 20-0 shutout.
