FFA Teams Place High

The Blanco FFA began the 2013-14 school year on a high note with strong showings this past week in contests at San Antonio and Seguin. Overall, more than 300 contestants participated in 8 different events with Blanco winning 6 of the 8 and placing 2nd in two others.

In the Homesite competition, Blanco would finish 2nd at Bexar County and 1st at Comal-Guadalupe. Individually, Ryan Edwards, Jamie McClinton, Savannah Kershaw, Taylor Guinn and Dru Ramirez would place in the top 10 at both contests with Megan Wier joining the top 10 at Seguin. Other members of the Homesite team include: Lainie Parker, Lexee Jenkins, Robbie Arlitt, Sarah Brotzman, Deanna Sevilla, Merritt Johnson and Meaghen Seales.

The Plant ID team from Blanco would place 1st at Bexar Co. and finish 2nd at Comal-Guadalupe. As individuals, Ryan Bible would place 1st overall with Ian Kirkland, Diego Alegria, Sara Jean Martinez and Bret Leigh Nance placing in the top 10 at San Antonio. At Seguin, top 10 honors would go to Sara Jean Martinez, Maryn McMain, Bret Leigh Nance, Ryan Bible and Emily Romero. Other team members include: James Rodriguez, Cheyenne Klein, Connor Anderson, Cross Caldwell, Amanda Gutherie, Taylor Spriggs, Victorie Jeske, Taylor Calder, Alexis Liesmann and Caitlyn Taylor.

Blanco’s Land team would take top honors at both contests, with Phil Alvarado placing 2nd individually at both events. Others making the top 10 individuals included Devlin Moore, Brandon Bankston and James McFarlin at Bexar County in addition to Joseph Perkins, Kenneth Omo and Carlin Green at Comal-Guadalupe. Additional land team members include: Jubal Elrod, Alex Palos, Terry Yarbrough, Colby Batey, John Hodge, Bryan Brecka and Nicole Spivey.

Finally, the local Range and Pasture team would also place 1st overall at both San Antonio and Seguin. Top 10 individuals included Katherine Biggs, Alley Penshorn, Kari Graham and Logan Dodd at Bexar Co. plus Mason LeBlanc, Rance Dollahite and Kristen Bowman at Seguin. Other members of the range team are: Payton Savarino, Dylan Bates, Kyle Sauceda, Abbie Culton, Carson Kipp, Kyle Gray and Jason Wheeler.

These teams will now turn their attention to the Hill District and Blanco Invitational Fall CDE’s to be held this week in Blanco. Approximately 400 contestants are expected to be competing in Land, Homesite, Range and Plant ID. Advisors for the Blanco FFA are Felice and Jason Marek.
