Hosted by the Uptown Blanco Textile Studio, the show runs Friday, October 11 thru Sunday, October 13. In addition to the 200 quilts on display, there will be special exhibits of quilts by internationally renowned quilters Ellen Anne Eddy and Louisa Smith.
Uptown Blanco Arts & Entertainment will be filled with quilts, wearable art, and vendors. On display will be the special patchwork Smart Car quilt that was created as a Breast Cancer Fundraising Campaign in England. The life-sized patchwork quilt completely covers a Smart Car and is made entirely of fabric donated and signed by over 20 celebrities including Russell Brand, Ryan Giggs, Sara Cox, Elizabeth Hurley, Rachel Stevens, Twiggy Lawson, Joanna Lumley, and Jane McDonald each selecting personal swatches of pink fabric from worn articles of clothing all used to create this special quilt.
“We are expecting a great turnout this year,” says Andrea Meegan, Textile Studio Manager, “Quilting is very popular in Texas and with the addition of cash prizes for the competitions we now have vendors from as far away as Florida.”
Vendors will have yards upon yards of fabulous fabric, sewing notions, and patterns; woven wearables, art cloth, jewelry, and much more. They’ll also be demonstrations of various quilting and sewing techniques, how to use the various quilting and sewing tools, and much more.
Area guilds will have booths in the Courtyard and will feature raffle quilts and country stores to benefit their guilds, along with information on joining their guild. Also on hand will be The Institute of Texan Cultures, who will have a booth set up to record oral histories of Texas Quilters to collect a historic timeline of the evolution of quilt making throughout Texas.
The exhibit will encompass the entire Uptown Blanco Arts & Entertainment complex, and Old Blanco County Courthouse. Show hours are Friday, noon to 7 pm, Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, noon to 4 pm. There will be a $5 entrance fee and children under 12 are free. The opening reception is Friday from 5:30 pm to 7 pm in the new Uptown Blanco Textile Studio.
