Gladys Norene Barr Reeves passed from this world on October 11, 2013 of congestive heart failure at the age of 93. She was born on December 27, 1919 in London, Texas and died in Blanco, Texas which was her home for most of her life.

She eloped with her childhood sweetheart Homer Dorsey Reeves. They had a hamburger for their wedding supper. The relationship lasted over 50 years. She had one child, Kenneth Deene Reeves of Luckenbach, Texas.

Although she received her GED later in her life, she loved learning and helping others to learn. She taught Sunday School and was certified to teach adult non readers to read. After attending cosmetology school, she owned and managed a beauty shop in San Antonio for many years before she retired.

Miss Gladys, as she was known in her latter years, was a very devout Christian and was a founding member of the Blanco Cowboy Church. She loved her family, friends, church, cat, home, good food, art and travel. Her favorite trip was to Disney World when she was 80. She abhorred ‘strong’ drink.

Gladys is survived by her son; daughter-in-law Marilyn Jane Reeves; one aunt; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends especially Arnella, Cindy, Pete, Angie, Shirley, Theresa and Natasha.

One thing is certain, she’s on the road again.

Visitation was held Monday, October 14, 2013 at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Blanco, Texas from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Graveside services were at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 15, 2013 in the Blanco Cemetery under the direction of Crofts – Crow Funeral Home.

Donations may be made to the Blanco Cowboy Church, 245 Blanco Cowboy Church Trl , Blanco, TX 78606, or Hill Country Memorial Hospice, 808 Reuben St Fredericksburg, TX 78624.
