The 8th grade Panther football team shut out the Schulenburg Shorthorns 20-0 on Thursday, October 10. Following Isaiah Delgado’s kickoff for Blanco, the Schulenburg offense took over on their own 40 yard line. The Panther defense held the Shorthorns with tackles by Will Grandberg ,Griffin Wearden, Draven Diamond, Kelby Cox, Cade Smith, Peyton VanDyke, Jared Spriggs, and Wyatt Perkins. Brandon Phipps, Granberg, and Spriggs made tackles for losses with Diamond making a quarterback sack to force the Shorthorns to punt. The Blanco offense took over on their own 25. On 4th down Spriggs booted a 23 yard punt for the Panthers. The Panther defense again forced the Shorthorns to punt on 4th down. The Panther offense started in a deep hole on theri 2 yard line. Granberg scooted through holes opened by the offensive linemen to pick up 15 yards giving the Panthers some breathing room. Toby Triesch added yardage on carries of 9 yards and 6 yards. Jonathon Merritt wove his way through the Shorthorns to pick up 54 yards. Four plays later, Cox hit Triesch with a pass in the end zone for the TD. Granberg scored the 2 point conversion run. With only 25 seconds remaining in the 1st half, Blanco grabbed the lead, 8-0.
The Shorthorns kicked off to start the 2nd half with Granberg returning the ball 20 yards to the Blanco 40. Granberg, Cox, and Triesch combined rushing yards to move the ball to the 3 yard line where Triesch drove the remaining distance for the touchdown. The 2 point attempt failed. With 1:36 in the 3rd quarter, Blanco led 14-0. After the Blanco kick off the Schulenburg offense took over on their 34 yard line. Dustin Culak, Phipps, Perkins, and Diamond made defensive stops. Schulenburg was forced to punt. Starting on their own 34, the Panther offense again rolled down field for the score. Granberg picked up 6 yards, with Triesch rushing 4 times for a total of 37 yards. Cox completed a pass to Culak for 12 yards. Mario Sanchez then got the call for the next 2 plays making 5 yards and then 8 yards for the TD. The 2 point attempt was no good. With 2:03 remaining in the game, the Panthers took the lead 20-0. Following the kickoff by Delgado, the Panthers stopped the Shorthorns with tackles by Chail Knoll, Tanner Suarez, Robert Reinhard, Brandon Steed, Delgado, and Phipps.
