Wednesday, November 13, 2013 • Posted November 15, 2013

The Blanco Quilters on the Square met for their monthly meeting on Saturday, November 9th. After the meeting, they participated in a "With Thanks and Giving" project by making pillowcases as part of the nation-wide "One Million Pillowcase Challenge".

Since 2012, American Patchwork & Quilting has been hosting a "One Million Pillowcase" challenge, where groups get together and make pillowcases and then donate them to organizations that provide services for children or families in need. "Every pillowcase has a story" is their slogan and since the Challenge was started, over 500,000 pillowcases have been made and have been donated to organizations in the Unites States.

The Blanco Quilters completed 28 pillowcases Saturday morning, and another 30 were started and were taken to be completed at various members' homes. The pillowcases that are made will be sent to two different international orphanages, and others will be given to a local non-profit that provides services for children in Texas.

The Blanco Quilters on the Square meet on the second Saturday of the month at the Uptown Blanco Textile Studio at 9 a.m.Anyone interested in joining the group is invited to attend, and anyone interested in learning how to quilt is also invited.
