Lady Panthers Hit the Diamond

The Blanco Varsity softball team has played 12 games in the past 2 weeks, including 6 in the Kerrville Tivy Tournament and 4 in the Blanco Tournament. Eleven of those opponents have been 3A, 4A, and 5A schools. The Panthers now hold a 7-5 season record.

Blanco started the season with a 14-10 win over Canyon Lake on Tuesday, February 18. Abbie Culton hit a single and a triple. Meaghen Seales, Payton Savarino, and Lexee Jenkins all had 2 hits. Seales pitched for the win tossing 5 strikeouts.

On Thursday, February 20, the Panthers traveled to Kerrville for tournament play. Facing Kerrville Tivy, the Panthers fell 8-18. Culton and Seales each had 2 hits, with Andrea Calzoncit smashing a double with 4 rbi. Savarino and Andrea Calzoncit pitched for Blanco. The next opponent on Thursday was San Antonio Marshall. The Panthers held on for a 9-8 win. Jenkins hit 3 singles and Cheyenne Klein blasted a single, a double, and a homerun. Seales pitched for the win and tossed 4 strikeouts. The last opponent on Thursday was Fredericksburg. The Panthers lost to the Billies 4-14. Jamie McClinton hit 2 singles and Klein added 2 rbi. Andrea Calzoncit and Savarino shared the pitching duties. On Saturday, facing another large school, the Blanco team lost to Corpus Christi Carroll 3-13. Andrea Calzoncit, Culton, McClinton, and Klein all hit singles. Savarino pitched 6 innings tossing 2 strikeouts. The next opponent for the Panthers on Saturday was Floresville. Blanco won 5-2. McClinton leveled 2 singles and a double with 4 rbi. Katlinn Calzoncit added 2 singles. Seales pitched all 7 innings with 3 strikeouts. The final opponent of the tournament was again Kerrville Tivy. This game was much closer, but Tivy won again, 2-6. Culton hit 3 singles with Seales, Jenkins, and Kasie Dowdy each hitting one.

On Tuesday, the Panthers hosted the Llano Yellowjackets for a high-scoring game that ended in Blanco’s favor, 19-17. Seales hit 3 singles, with McClinton adding 2 singles and a triple. Klein scored 5 rbi off 2 singles. Seales pitched 5 innings, with Savarino going 2. Seales tossed 9 strikeouts.

In the Blanco Tournament on Friday, February 28, the Panthers outscored the New Braunfels JV, 11-1. Klein nailed a 3-run homerun over the left field fence. Katlinn Calzoncit hit 3 singles with 2 rbi. Culton and McClinton each hit 2 singles. Savarino pitched for the win. The Panthers then faced Boerne and won 11-1. Savarino had 3 hits with 2 singles and a double with 5 rbi. Klein and McClinton each scored 3 runs. Seales pitched for the win.

On Saturday, March 1, the Panthers faced Comfort in the semi-final game. The Panthers defeated the Deer 13-5. Klein had 3 hits including 2 singles and a double. Charlsey Smith hit 2 singles. McClinton scored 3 runs. Seales and Savarino shared the pitching duties. In the finals, Blanco played Canyon Lake. In a very close game, the Hawks won 2-3. Seales and Andrea Calzoncit each hit 2 singles. McClinton stroked a double and a triple. The Panthers took 2nd place in the tournament.

Blanco travels to the Fredericksburg Tournament on Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8. On Friday Blanco plays Center Point at 9:00am, Lampasas at 12:00 noon, and Fort Worth Country Day at 3:00 pm.
