Kendall County Democratic Women Host Author
Wednesday, February 4, 2009 • Posted February 3, 2009

The Kendall County Area Democratic Women (KCADW) will meet at 10:00am on Thursday, February 12, at the Boerne Holiday Inn Express hotel.

The featured guest at this month’s meeting is Marlene Richardson, co-author (with Jeanne Dixon) of a new book on the history of Leon Springs - The Settlement of Leon Springs: From Prussia to Persia.

The book represents a 25-year collaboration between the authors and includes, as much as possible, portions of numerous oral histories focused on the history of Leon Springs.

This includes stories about such things as the first “cross-county flight” from Ft Sam Houston to the Leon Springs Military Reservation, Max Aue’s stage stop and commercial compound that eventually housed the original Macaroni’s Grill, and settlement in the area by Prussian nobles Dophie and George von Plehwe (whose little European-style houses still stand).

Ms. Richardson is a retired Senior Producer with KLRN-TV, San Antonio’s public television station.

KCADW holds monthly meetings in the Boerne area on the second Thursday of every month. Contact Gwen King 830-755-4434 or Jean Robitaille 830-981-4971 for further information.
