Blanco Teams Sweep at Home Meet
Wednesday, April 9, 2014 • Posted April 11, 2014

Blanco High School played host to the District 27-AA UIL meet last week, and it featured a classic battle of academic titans that refused to fall.

Lago Vista came out of Wednesday night’s clash clinging to a 574-572 lead over Blanco.

“We knew going in that we'd have a tough district meet against Lago Vista,” said UIL coordinator Russell Kirkscey.

“They’re always very strong.”

Blanco and Lago Vista dominated the meet, with each school placing 3-4 students in many individual events they claimed as their specialties.

“Our math coach, Jody Schwarzlose, had a great set of students this year,” said Kirkscey. They swept several math events.”

“My teams performed well at the district meet,” said Schwarzlose. “They have all worked very hard over the past months. I feel that they will be very competitive at the regional meet in May.”

Blanco’s Editorial Writing team also went 1-2-3.

In all, twenty-four students qualified for the regional meet, which will be held at Texas State University on the first weekend on May.
