I am happy and thankful to call Blanco my home, and I enjoy working in the heart of the city on the square as the Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce. This is my first letter to the Editor in all the 18 years that I’ve lived in Blanco but for the first time, feel very much compelled to write.
As our community grows in number of residents and welcomes visitors all year long, the vehicle traffic around the square has increased. Consequently, the pedestrian traffic is also on the rise. The purpose of this letter is to call to the attention of everyone in town the need to be more careful when traveling through the center of town. There have been two separate occasions in the last two weeks that I personally have come within mere inches of being struck by a vehicle on the square. In both situations, the cars were traveling at a speed that was too fast for an area of town where there is a great deal of pedestrian traffic.
While it is true that I sometimes tend to walk quickly and always have a great deal going on in my head, I do take the time to pause and look before I cross the street – good thing too!
So, my dear residents, I will promise to walk more slowly and pay better attention if you will promise to drive a little slower, be mindful of pedestrians when traveling around the Courthouse Square. Please keep the safety of our residents and our visitors in mind.
