Walk-a-Thon Raises Over $10,000
Wednesday, April 9, 2014 • Posted April 11, 2014

Blanco Elementary students generated over $10,000 in donations as part of a PTO-sponsored Walk-a-Thon held at the Blanco Elementary parking lot on March 6.

The $10,000 raised matched results from last year’s Walk-a-Thon

“We had 100% participation, because our Walk-a-Thon is held during PE classes,” said principal Linda Romano. “Most teachers also walked.”

The PTO provided water, fruit, and an end-of-the-walk treat of popcorn for all students. Popcorn was served in commemorative souvenir cups.

All proceeds from last year’s and this year’s events will be used to upgrade and improve the main playground.

Plans include a running/walking track, in addition to fixed equipment like soccer goals and backstops. If money allows, rest stops and markers will also be installed.

The track will be approximately ¼ mile in length. Students will be able to complete mile run requirements for PE without going to another campus.

“All students and staff will be able to use the track to improve health and wellness,” said Romano. “Community will have full access on Weekends.”
