In attending a recent Real Estate Regional Meeting for Texas, the REALTORS® announced what Trends they are seeing in the Construction world. Here are a few of them to watch for or consider; Electric sockets to accommodate all the electronic devices, walk in showers with no doors, free standing bath tubs, multi-generation living to include elderly parents or children returning home, down sizing, and the color of Cobalt blue appliances. Let’s break these down now.
Let’s start with Cobalt blue appliances. Some of us can remember the Avocado Green and Harvest Gold appliances. They are exactly what I mentioned, a trend. What happens when a trend ends or you move? Personally, I remember painting a refrigerator white to match my new other appliances when I moved. So keep that in mind.
In the bathrooms, we have walk in showers with no doors and free standing bath tubs. Walk in showers will also help if you ever have someone handicap, good resale value. The design of these showers can be full walk around or just a simple curved entry. The free standing bath tubs can be the old fashion claw foot or a designer European style. Both the shower and tub have been trendy for numerous years now.
Electronic devices are everywhere. Do you see Computers, iPhones, and iPads plugged in everywhere? Additional chords running all over? There are ways to make this neater. If you are building, talk to your builder about ways to accommodate all the electronics. There are ways to handle not just the plugs but the USB connections.
Down sizing has been hot for the last few years. This came about around the time of the Green trend. Small homes are in and larger out. People want to spend more time outside, traveling, or just spend less on utilities. People are moving out of larger homes into smaller ones.
One of the biggest trends is Multi – generation living, including homes to accommodate elderly parents and children returning home. If building, consider adding additional wings with another master bedroom, bathroom, and a study/office/bedroom. If you’re not building, you might be adding on to your home, or even building a small guest house. Guest homes are popular for just having family or friends visit too.
Just some thoughts at what is the trending style now. Some trends do stick and carry over year to year, whereas others do fade out. Just keep that in mind when you are going with something bold or unusual.
