It’s that time of year when we again invite you to join us at the Blanco Classic Car Show at the Blanco State Park on Saturday, May 17th. It is also Armed Forces Day and we cordially invite all Active-duty, veterans, National Guard, Reserves and retired military to attend our FREE show and allow us to thank each and every one of you and your families for your service and sacrifice to our country.
Rev up your engines, turn your radio or CD player up and head to Blanco State Park for this year’s edition of the Blanco Classic Car Show! It is time to show off the hard work you have done over the winter on your favorite special “ride”. It is amazing to watch new and repeat visitors who love these vintage muscle, classic and antique vehicles come down to the banks of the beautiful Blanco River to share their love of these machines.
Classic hotrods, foreign sports cars and antique vehicles of all ages and types await you on Saturday, May 17th, starting at 10:00 AM. The event is “free” to walk-in visitors wishing to view the show and there is ample parking near Blanco State Park. Great food, cold beverages and colorful, commemorative T-shirts will be available for purchase at the show. Awards for this year will include the Park Ranger’s Choice, Mayor’s Choice and Best of Show. Winners in various categories will be selected by ballot during the show.
You and your family will almost be able to hear the songs of the Beach Boys, the Beatles, The Association and Jan & Dean along with your favorite memories from the past as you leisurely walk by the muscle cars, classics and antiques of long ago. The entire family can spend the day surrounded by the sights and sounds of immaculately restored vehicles from a bygone era. Remember the drive-in movies, the car hops at your favorite drive-in restaurant and surfing songs on the AM radio. You know, the days before cell phones, I-Pads, laptops and personal computers when life seemed a little less hectic. Memories will flow back through your mind and heart as you stroll down the lines of restored classic cars, custom cars and trucks. Share those re-awakened memories with your children, grandchildren or even great grandchildren and let them know that grandma and grandpa were once very cool and still are!
As many as 200 restored cars, trucks and other vintage vehicles will be displayed on the grassy banks of the beautiful Blanco River starting at 10 a.m. You can also see pre-1949 classic sedans, limos and vehicles that traveled our Texas highways before the advent of the Interstates. See classic MG’s, Triumphs and other British cars and trucks that now make their home in and around Texas. There is a lot to see at the Blanco Classic Car Show, including Street Rods and Special Interest Vehicles. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. and runs until 11 a.m. with events scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Awards will be presented at 2:00 p.m.
The Blanco Masonic Lodge #216 is the operating sponsor of the show which is co-sponsored by the Blanco State Park. The stated goal of the show is “to provide a showcase for the talents of local and out-of-town car clubs, restoration enthusiasts and collectors”, and to provide fun and entertainment for visitors and participants. While the show is a passion of love for both the participants and organizers, one of the objectives is to generate funds to support community projects, awards and educational support programs, in and around the Blanco community. Revenues, after show expenses, from sponsorships provided by local business and community leaders go to help us provide scholarship programs, reading improvement programs, educational and community recognition awards, civic improvements, disaster and other relief programs. Such programs, as the Community Builder Award and the Ernie R. Davis, Jr., Memorial "Care & Share Dinner", the annual Thanksgiving time meal, which is prepared and served by volunteers from Blanco Masonic Lodge #216 and Blanco Eastern Star Chapter #934 are also made possible by funds earned at the car show.
The dinner is served at the Masonic Lodge, located at 11th and Main Street in Blanco Texas. The "Care & Share Dinner" meals are also delivered to those seniors and physically challenged person who cannot make it to the lodge to participate in the dinner.
