Editor,

As a resident living on Middle Creek Rd, I have learned that Commissioner Granburg has decided to build a bridge over the creek on MCR. He never felt the need to discuss this with the residents living on this road. He says that his concern is safety. Facts are, there has never been an accident at the bridge site, nor do buses travel on this road. It is important to note that every home on this road can be reached from one of the main roads, at either end. There are many low water crossings in Blanco that actually have had accidents, and lives lost where this money could be used far better. Granberg has already spent $63,000 for an engineering study, and is willing to spend $500,000 more of taxpayers money on this project despite a recent meeting where the majority of landowners were against this project. It is actually felt because of the winding, sharp curves and the increase in traffic more accidents would occur. It was pointed out by residents that this creek has been of so little interest when it comes to high waters that there is no signage warning of possible high waters, no marker to allow drivers to actually see how high the water is and that these things would cost considerably less to taxpayers than building a very expensive bridge. This would allow the natural beauty of the area to remain and still alert drivers if the water is high. How about, instead of pushing a project through, that he now knows has considerably more opposition than support, he continue to work with these constituents and attempt to do a less invasive, more acceptable alternative, and use those taxpayer monies for roads where deaths have occurred.
