On July 21, 2014 at around 11:30 pm two Blanco County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle in Blanco upon observing a traffic violation. The vehicle also matched the description of a suspect in an incident earlier that evening.
The driver, who has been identified as Eduardo Agustin Navarro, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest that was discovered during a routine check.
The deputies were in the process of arresting Navarro, when he jumped back into the vehicle. As the deputies were attempting to remove Navarro from the vehicle, he put the vehicle in drive and pushed the accelerator. One unidentified deputy was struck by the vehicle.
Navarro fled the scene and the vehicle was recovered later.
This morning information was received indicating where Navarro was hiding. Officers from the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, Blanco Police Department, Johnson City Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded. As the officers arrived, Navarro fled on foot and was captured after a short chase. He assaulted another officer during the arrest.
Navarro was taken to the Blanco County Jail on the warrant, with additional charges pending.
The Blanco County Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank the Blanco Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Johnson City Police Department, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, and the Blanco EMS for their assistance in this matter.
The identification and status of the deputy who was struck has not been released by the Sheriff’s Department.
